What you can do with your export
- Read every conversation with formatting, code blocks, tables and the images you uploaded or generated.
- Search all chats at once — find that prompt or answer from last year in seconds.
- Save one chat as PDF, Markdown, Word (.docx) or a standalone HTML page, or copy it as Markdown.
- Save many chats as a ZIP of Markdown, Word or HTML files, or as one combined Markdown file for Claude Projects or NotebookLM.
- Choose what to include: thinking summaries and tool calls (code interpreter, file tools) are hidden by default and can be switched on.
How to use it
- Request your export in ChatGPT (Settings → Data controls → Export data) and download the ZIP from the email.
- Drop the ZIP into the box above. Don't unzip it.
- Pick a chat on the left, or search. Use the buttons above the chat to save it.
Only the active branch of each conversation is shown — the answers you kept, not every regenerated version — just like the ChatGPT app.
Private by design
Chat history is personal: work notes, health questions, drafts. This viewer reads the export file inside your browser tab with JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and closing the tab forgets everything. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to open my chat export here?
Yes. The file is read locally by your browser; it is never sent to a server. The site has no login and stores nothing about your chats.
What is inside the ChatGPT export ZIP?
conversations.json (all chats; large accounts get conversations-000.json, -001 …), chat.html, your uploaded and generated images, and account files such as user.json. This viewer reads the conversations and images and ignores the rest.
Why can't I just open chat.html?
You can, but it is a single, enormous page without search or export, and it often freezes the browser for big accounts. The viewer here loads chats one at a time and adds search and downloads.
My export is several gigabytes. Will it work?
Usually, yes. Images stay inside the ZIP and are read only when you open a chat with pictures. The limit is the size of the conversation text: a conversations.json of a few hundred megabytes works in desktop Chrome, Edge and Firefox; phones have less memory.
Does it show Custom GPT and project chats?
Yes — they are ordinary conversations in the export. Archived chats are included too.
